Supporting Performance

Sports performance involves the athlete appearing at their event in as good shape as they can manage, both physically and mentally. This draws upon their training prior to the event getting them to the event.  They then need to get their pre-event preparation correct.

Massage can help to give the sportsperson a physical edge and also support their mental performance,  by ensuring they know they have done their best to get through their training.  By allowing increased training and higher intensity, massage can be integral to the physical condition the athlete achieves. The sports massage therapist’s input to areas such as warm up, stratching and warm down can also ensure concerns and worries about the physical state of the sportsperson’s body are reduced.  Where approriate, the therapist can assist with the sportspersons mental approach (planning, focusing, relation strategies and visualisation).
